Seagrass Carpet Affordable Flooring Edinburgh

Seagrass carpet is one of a group of natural floor coverings that are environmentally friendly and are becoming increasingly popular as we become more aware of our natural environment. At Affordable Flooring in Edinburgh we are finding that our customers are demanding natural products for their homes. We can currently supply and fit seagrass and sisal carpets, however this range is likely to increase due to their popularity.

Seagrass

Seagrass comes from China and Vietnam and is grown in paddy-like fields that are flooded with sea water during the growing cycle. The dried seagrass is made into a strong, hard-wearing yarn that is used to make products such as string, carpets and rugs.

Benefits of Natural Carpets

Laying a natural carpet reduces your choice of colour and pattern compared with synthetic carpets, however there are far more benefits. The natural shades of these carpets will look great in most interiors and there are enough weaves, patterns and shades for most people to find one that they like.

Seagrass carpet weaves

  • Environmentally Friendly – If you care about the environment then natural carpets are perfect as they are made from sustainable plants and contain no chemicals.
  • Non Toxic – Natural fibres such as seagrass and sisal have no chemical fumes that can irritate your eyes or throat. They also create healthy indoor humidity levels that prevents the build-up of static.
  • Hypoallergenic – If you have an asthma or allergy sufferer in your home, then natural floorcoverings are ideal as they are virtually allergen free. Natural carpets can be made from seagrass, sisal, coir and jute.

Why Choose a Seagrass Carpet for your Edinburgh Home

Along with all the generic benefits of a natural carpet and the fact that a seagrass carpet will look good in a modern flat and a 100 year old tenement, seagrass has some of its own special qualities.

      1. It is extremely tough and hard wearing.
      2. It has a natural stain resistance, however stains can be cleaned with a little soap and water.
      3. It is completely bio-degradable so your carpet can be recycled at the end of its life.
      4. Dirt and dust tends to be naturally repelled by the seagrass fibres.
      5. It is the most stain resistant of the natural fibres.
      6. Like other carpets your seagrass carpet will provide additional insulation in your home that will help reduce heat loss and noise.
      7. It is softer to walk on than sisal.
