Vinyl is a different product from linoleum. It is a synthetic product made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) whereas linoleum was made from natural materials. In recent years the popularity of vinyl has increased due to its many great benefits.

10 Advantages of Vinyl Flooring

  1. Hundreds of Colours & Designs
  2. Bright striped vinyl flooring available at Affordable Flooring

Vinyl flooring is extremely versatile and can be found in every colour you can imagine from shocking pinks to natural creams. The majority of people choose a patterned vinyl as it can be made to look like wood, stone or slate. The more adventurous may choose a bright and colourful pattern. But whatever your interior design taste, there will be a design that you will love.

  3. Easy To Clean
  4. Nobody wants to buy beautiful flooring that is difficult to keep clean. All vinyl requires is a regular sweep and an occasional mop with warm water.

  5. Hygienic
  6. Vinyl is laid in one sheet so there are no gaps or cracks for bacteria to live.

  7. Long Lasting
  8. A hard wood floor will last longer than vinyl flooring, however a good quality vinyl floor that has been looked after will last longer than 10 years. Many companies will provide a 10-15 year guarantee. And by that time most people will be ready to update and refresh their room.

  9. Warm
  10. Stone and tiled floors can feel hard and cold underfoot, however vinyl is cushioned and warm to touch.

  11. Stain Resistance
  12. Vinyl is stain resistant and many companies add scuff protection to their product.

  13. Water Resistance
  14. Vinyl flooring is water resistant which means it is ideal for using in kitchens and bathrooms where there may be water spillages. It’s water resistant qualities also make it ideal for floors that get dirty and need cleaned or washed regulary.

  15. Suitable for Underfloor Heating
  16. Underfloor heating can be used with vinyl flooring. This is ideal in a small room like a bathroom if there is no space for a radiator.

  17. Noise Reduction
  18. Like a carpet, vinyl flooring absorbs noise. This is a huge benefit if you live in a busy family home, have pets, or are in a flat with neighbours all around.

  19. Less Expensive than other Flooring
  20. There is no doubt about it, there are many fantastic flooring types available and all have their advantages and disadvantages. But not many have as many advantages as vinyl flooring and still remain as one of the least expensive flooring types.

Disadvantages of Vinyl Flooring

No product is perfect and you probably want to know the disadvantages too. We believe there are only a few.

  • Can be Damaged by Sharp Objects
  • This is true but so can most types of flooring. Just be careful when moving furniture around and don’t leave scissors or knives on the floor (we know you wouldn’t anyway).

  • Colour Can Fade in the Direct Sunlight
  • We live in Scotland so not usually a huge problem. If your room does get a lot of sun you may want to use blinds or curtains to protect your floor and other furniture.

  • Synthetic Product
  • Vinyl flooring is made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC). For some people this is not an issue but if you prefer natural products then vinyl would not be ideal for you.

At Affordable Flooring we have hundreds of vinyl flooring samples that you can view in our Bonnyrigg showroom. Alternatively book an appointment and we will bring some to your home or business.
